The original owner took delivery of this car in Germany, and used it there for approximately one month before having it shipped to the USA where it was garaged in Pennsylvania until I purchased it in the late summer of 1970. Since then it has been garaged in Vermont and (except for the restoration years) driven only between May and October... on fine, clear days!
After two summers of enjoying the car, I hired Starksboro Coachworks to restore it. During restoration, the orginal color (blue) was changed to green, and the leather (ivory laquer) stained a British Tan. Now retired, but available to comment on every detail of the complete "frame up" restoration is Bill Coon, available to answer questions by phone at 802-453-2684. Since the completion of the work all authorized Mercedes service has been performed by The Automaster, located in Shelburne, Vermont. Master Mercedes mechanic, Craig Preavy has exclusively serviced the car. He can be reached at 802-985-8411.
The mileage was appromixately 100,000. when I bought the car. Since completion of the restoration in 1980, I have driven the car another 80,000 miles. (Among the myriad of parts that were replaced during the work, was a brand new engine.) Today the car runs beautifully and cosmetically it is a true "head turner".
Now, having owned the car for 37 years, and as I am turning 70, it is appropriate to pass the "stewardship" of this beautiful automobile over to another who appreciates (and will care for) such a classic Mercedes as this Ponton represents.
Although the car is stored between November and April, it can be viewed. Anyone seriously interested in purchasing the car (price is firm at $110,000) is welcome as a houseguest here in Burlington in order that you can experience the car "up close and personal".
